International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA) in collaboration with Public Health Institute (PHI) is conducting research dubbed “Women in Tobacco farming”. The ongoing research is focusing on health, equality, and empowerment of women involved in tobacco farming. The study targets the following counties: Migori and Kuria in South Nyanza and, Embu and Meru in Eastern Kenya.
The research will seek to find out the role of women in any decision making regarding tobacco farming as well as the extent of women participation in tobacco farming among other objectives.
The project commenced in June 2015 and is expected to conclude in May 2016.
