Smoking and use of other tobacco products is known to weaken the immune system and its ability to respond to infections, thus making tobacco users more susceptible to infectious diseases including covid-19. Different research studies that have been conducted to establish the relationship between COVID-19 and smoking have found that smokers appear to fare comparatively poorly among hospitalized COVID-19 patients whilst another study found that smokers have 14 times greater odds of developing COVID-19 associated pneumonia than non-smokers.
Smoking riskier during COVID-19 period, maybe it’s time to quit!
