Research and Development Programme

Conclusive-ResearchTo effectively make an impact on policy, institutional and legislative issues,  relevant and well-researched information should be used as a solid foundation for a well-documented case. The department is responsible for all the research and analysis for any bill taken up by the Organisation.
This includes the collection and collation of all relevant information for a particular bill. This will be critical in ensuring that the outputs of ILA-Kenya are unique and of high quality. Some of the activities that are conducted include:

  • Collecting relevant materials – The Laws of Kenya, books on statutory interpretation
  • Subscribing to the Kenya Gazette
  • Subscribing to local and online libraries
  • Partnering with other resource centers
  • Researching on legislative issues

The programme personnel establish and maintain constructive working relations with the Government, NGOs, bilateral and multilateral agencies; as well as partner organisations. The programme also makes use of services from research firms to conduct research work on behalf of the organisation
Further, the programme is charged with the development and distribution of the Legislative Briefing, a periodic newsletter that is aimed at informing stakeholders on projects and activities that the organisation or its partners has carried out, is currently undertaking or intends to carry out in the future
